NIU! | July 15th 16th

Lovely VRT crew

After a year worth of planning, the time has finally arrived! Night It Up! 2011. We had a blast last year as volunteers and had high hopes for this year. We are organizers this time and can't be bossed around. Plus, not to mention the cooler shirt and more familiar faces. The overall experience was definitely different from last year. However, whether or else it's for the better or for the worse... we're not so sure. One thing's for sure, everyday we would come home aching sore and filled with mosquito bites.

During this two day event, many ups and downs. In the PUYO area, we had a lot of tasks on hand, as we were a part of the VRT team as well as marketing. There were way too many marketing duties to be accomplished, and due to the lack of planning and unqualified team lead, we really lost hope on the team. Anyhow, we were still there to sell the pins, t-shirts, and do surveys, yet we still got complained at... it was quite disappointing. We also got a taste of how directing traffic was like, it was not-so-bad actually. On the other hand, team VRT turned out better than expected! It was pretty much the first time meeting this group of people since we've always had our meetings on MSN. Anyhow, very funny group, many laughter's and all that. Volunteers this year... were so lazy! Works for 30mins and rests for 10mins... I believe we were much more productive last year as orange shirts. Both nights we stayed at the venue till 3-4am cleaning up garbage, directing vendor cars, doing this and that; man it was exhausting.

Mid-night crew; we're all so out of it
As for the "outside of PUYO" events... we saw many faces, whether it was from school, elementary, volunteering, etc etc. It's actually quite nice to see all these people after such a long time. This year, our goal was to try out all the interesting foods out there; but we failed, due to all the tasks given out from marketing team. We still managed to try some though; ice-cream waffle on a stick, lamb/beef skewers, pineapples, sausages, rice cakes, some healthy canned beverages, cotton candy, bubble cup sweets, bbt, watermelon juice, and shake shake fries.

Some highlights of the two days... on day 1 we were hoping to see some interesting people. While we were working at marketing booth choco spotted B.Chen in the crowd with his gf; man that was really nerve racking... we then went on our break to spy on people and unfortunately we saw S.Wang, R.Mao and his sister... major heart attack right there. The moment of misery went by quite fast, as we didn't really spend a lot of time together...; merre & R.Mao went to refill pineapple and took walks to McD while choco just walked off away from the rest to avoid awkwardness. It took a while for us to meet back together since there was no signal service on ground due to the large crowd of people. Anyways, later in the evening we went for pho with J.Ing-Chen and L.Lau; took damn long to find the car. Day 2 there wasn't much going on, still saw many people here and there... While doing surveys choco saw this random visitor from day 1 again, and they got to talk somewhat, that was pretty much her highlight. As for merre, R.Mao returned to visit her once again with bubble tea this time! Overall, a new NIU! experience compared to last year.. hopefully next year will be even better!
